From styling their mums hoodies to flexin’ in Rafs, dead lounge is the beginning of a new era in Brisbane fashion.

Every member of dead lounge is a creative, including music artists, designers, models, photographers or style influences. One key thing that they all have in common is a love for music and fashion.

Rick Owens, Raf Simons, A Bathing Ape, Palace and Comme des Garcons are the usual big brands you will see them in. When you go give them a stalk after finish reading this post you will come across a lot of trends such as oversized tees, straight leg pants and layering.

Don’t think of them as a bunch of guys showing off all these major labels. Think of them as a group with a massive influential style on the young generation.

I respect dead lounge for wanting to make a change to the stereotypical ‘Brisbane fashion’.

And its good to back…

I tried something different, I never would go for this look but I ended up loving it! Fishnets are key to changing your look to something unique and eye catching.

This look might not be ideal for Queensland summers, but keep in mind A/W is right around the corner…

The oversized top is inspired by one of my favourite labels, Vetements. Oversized sleeves will always be on trend, don’t be afraid to buy a size larger! I styled the top with these Decjuba pants, the white stripe adds in a modern and minimal feel.

You must be wondering why I tied the laces around my ankles? Well I was inspired by London street style! I am always looking for different ways to wear clothing, shoes and accessories.

THE VERDICT

From flowy girly tops to structured and futuristic jackets, this seasons NYFW has opened my eyes to all these new and upcoming trends for spring/summer 17. A trend I have seen popping up in collections such as Jonathan Simkhai and Zimmermann are the blushy blues and pinks to earthy tones such as beiges, khaki and light creams. Yeezy did the earthy tones perfectly, throughout is runway show his transition from these tones to fresh whites was so aesthetically pleasing! Another trend I have been loving are the relaxed silhouettes such as “baggy” trousers, oversized jackets, long skirts and ‘shirt dresses’.  So definitely wide legged pants, an oversized tee and a flowy strapless top are some of my must haves for this season!

Watches have and will always be the classic accessory to add style to any outfit. A silver or gold metal band for going out, then there’s the leather band for those casual days in comfy pants, a tee and sneakers.

I have collaborated with one of my favourite brands, Christian Paul. They produce varieties of watches it’s so hard to just choose one, from rose golds to black, greys and beiges. I had my eye on one particular watch for awhile and it’s the white on black marble with a black leather band style. The marble is that classic blogger style of course but the aesthetic of the watch is ahhhh, I’m in love! The black leather band is so timeless and simple it’s such an amazing statement piece!

Baggy tees over slip dresses have been seen everywhere lately so I thought I would put my own touch to this trend.

The ripped tee adds a really cool and edgy vibe to the outfit, obviously inspired by the Yeezy Season 1 collection. The leather jacket over my shoulders brings the whole look together by flowing with the ripped tee and the jewellery. To accessorise I added large silver hoops, these are the ultimate accessory of the look because they add luxe and a minimal and sophisticated touch to the outfit.

THE SLIP DRESS

All over fashion magazines, runway collections and blogs. The slip dress is famous for its simple yet elegant style. What I love about this piece is that you can easily dress it up for a night out drinking cocktails and also dress it down by wearing a tee over the top, leather jacket and some white sneakers. The piece is a perfect must have essential in every women’s wardrobe.

Lately my favourite wardrobe staples for this season is a simple slip dress and a leather biker jacket. These pieces look great together bringing that 90’s chic look. I styled these two pieces with some tie up heels by Senso, hoop earrings from Witchery and of course a black neck tie.

FLARES X ASSYMETRICAL LINES

 

Flared sleeves are seen everywhere, the flared sleeve can be seen in many different styles from bohemian to the modern minimalist. This top I am wearing from Seed Heritage is the perfect flared sleeve top. I pulled down the sleeve to create a oversized look and it worked! Underneath I wore a Kookai bralette, I found that the strap of the bralette flows perfectly with the abstract and clean cut lines in the outfit. The choker tied around my hair suits the delicate touches of the look. The pants with the asymmetrical cut are the perfect style of pant to go with the top as well as ‘the hair choker’. The leather boots from Tony Bianco finishes off the look perfectly by flowing well with the accessories such as the bandana, the clutch and the choker.

‘EFFORTLESSLY COOL’

 

 

RELAX / VIBE OUT TO CHILL MUSIC

This look is all about the wide legged pants from Veronika Maine. These pants are tight at the waist then fall straight down which shows an oversized look. I also love how these pants bunch up at the sneakers. This look is seen in many Autumn/Winter looks of Australian labels such as Bassike, Jac+Jack, TEN PIECES and many more….

I used a neck tie and put it around the top of the pants to show off this trend, many designers used in their Resort 16/17 at MBFW. For example Georgia Alice, Daniel Avakian, Dion Lee, Toni Maticevkski and the list goes on….

The rest of the outfit is very simple with a relaxed white shirt, neck tie which is tied around my hair to make my hair look messy/effortless. The adidas sneakers finish off the look by making it extra ‘effortlessly cool’.

“Do you have this in black?”

 

 

Yes, I did rip my oversized tee from Topshop…

Obviously inspired by Yeezy, the look of a ripped tee is such a cool and effortless way of taking an outfit to the next level. In Kanye’s collections his looks are so simple, however his attention to detail and aesthetic flows so well.

The first three are photos of the look with sneakers (yeezys), this is much more of a casual/comfortable look. Then the rest of the photos are a similar look but with heeled boots and a blazer chucked over one shoulder. Finishing off with black tights from Country Road, a choker, cap and sunglasses ties everything together perfectly.

Happy Sunday!

Today I did the classic walk around the markets kind of Sunday so here is what I wore…

The scoop neck tee under the cami is a cute way of layering and adding that something extra to a simple camisole. The leather choker by (@libertyemma_collections)  goes perfectly with the thin straps of the top and the strap of the clutch. This skirt is one of my favourite pieces from The Great Beyond, its so easy to dress up and looks great with a basic tee and sneakers! I had to add a bandana, so I tied it on my clutch strap, this small accessory ties the look together perfectly.
